3 Tips For Putting On A Successful Catered Summer Party

Blog

One of the best times to have a party is in the summer, when the weather is nice and spirits are high. When putting on a summer party, you don't always want to have to spend time cooking or over the grill. Take the stress off your next summer party by hiring a catering service to assist you with food for the party.

#1 Consider the Layout of the Venue

When planning an outdoor party, you are going to need to consider the layout of the venue and how that is going to impact your catering choices. Make sure that the catering company you choose is either familiar with the venue or can visit the venue with you before you create a menu.

For example, does the venue have an electrical power source? With electrical power, your catering company can hook up refrigerators, holding cabinets, and warming stations. Without electrical power, your catering company needs to bring in equipment that is powered by alternative fuel, or they may need to bring a mobile cooking unit.

Does the venue have a kitchen for the catering company to use? If it doesn't, then the catering company needs to bring all food in already prepared or a mobile cooking unit. The layout of the venue will impact what and how food can be prepared, so look at it carefully.

#2 Choose Food that Works with the Space

Next, think about the layout of your event. Are you putting on a concert or festival? If so, you may want to serve food that is easily portable and can be eaten with one hand. You don't want to serve food that requires cutting things up or using more than one utensil.

Are you putting on a wedding or anniversary party? With this type of event, you are more likely to have tables and seating, and the setting is more appropriate for a sit-down type of meal. This is when serving barbeque, which can require both hands, makes sense.

Make sure that the type of food that you choose works with the type of event that you are putting on. For a sit-down event, serve some type of sit-down summer food. For events that require more movement, serve more finger foods and portable foods.

#3 Have a Weather Back-Up Plan

Make sure you have a back-up plan for inclement weather. Have a plan for if it rains, if a forest fire brings a bunch of smoke into the area, or if the day is just incredibly hot. Make sure that you know how you will adjust your party if the weather is not ideal so that people still feel comfortable attending your event and eating all the food that you ordered.

Hire a catering company like Urban's to help you out with your next summer party.
