A Modern Living Guide: Using Online Food Delivery Services

Blog

The way people order and enjoy food has certainly changed over the past few years. These days, if you want to order delivery, you don't necessarily call the restaurant directly. Instead, you are expected to use one of the online food delivery services that interface with restaurants. These delivery services are certainly convenient, but there can be a bit of a learning curve when you first start to use them. The following tips should help.

Allow Extra Time

It often takes a little longer to get your food when you're ordering from an online delivery service. There's simply more processing that has to happen. The restaurant has to receive the order from the app. The app has to find a driver. The driver has to drive to the restaurant and get the food before driving it over to your place. Waiting times vary, and most delivery services will give you an approximate waiting time when you order. It's just helpful to go into this knowing your food will probably take more than 15 minutes to reach you.

Check for Discount Codes

There are several fees that get tacked on when you order with most online delivery services. However, there are also lots of discount codes that these services offer. If you can find a discount code, it will often negate the extra fees that get tacked on for delivery. Sometimes discount codes come up when you open the delivery app. If one does not, do a quick Google search for one before you order.

Remember to Leave Delivery Instructions

Most online food delivery apps have a line on the checkout page where you can enter more specific delivery instructions for the driver. Take advantage of this. A few simple instructions such as "leave by the front door" or "my place is the one with the blue door" can not only make things easier for the driver but help ensure you get your food on time.

Leave a Tip

Note that the delivery charge, whatever it may be, does not go entirely to the driver; it's not a tip. As such, it is customary to tip your online food delivery driver. You can leave the tip in the app or give the driver cash at the door. Tipping in the app is often most convenient and sanitary.

Once you get used to using online delivery apps, you'll come to love them. It might just take a little practice to learn their intricacies.
